About us

Planet Heswall is a voluntary group of concerned Heswall residents, looking to make Heswall more sustainable.

We are also a loosely connected local environmental network, reaching out to existing groups in Heswall, and working with churches, schools, businesses and residents. We had an initial meeting at Dale Farm in 2019, followed by meetings at Heswall Primary School and Heswall Quaker Meeting House, before COVID stopped us meeting face-to-face.

We’re looking for people who would like to get involved in local projects on topics such as: Local Food, waste reduction, energy use, clean transport, trees & wildlife. We are not a political or campaigning organisation, and aren’t looking to make a profit – our focus is connecting and educating, to make Heswall a greener place to live.

We are a part of the Cool Wirral (Climate Change) Partnership, and a member of the Transition Network.

Following COP26 in Glasgow, polls have shown that the climate crisis has risen to be the #1 issue of concern to the British population. A recent study amongst young people has shown that over 50% of children and young people are suffering from eco-anxiety, with ??% thinking that they are doomed.

We need to act, and do so as a community.

Community Focussed

With the latest dire warnings on how little time we have to prevent runaway climate change, we have an increased urgency in helping to promote action for a better future, starting here in Heswall. As the co-founder of the Transition Towns movement said:

  • If we wait for governments, it will be too little, too late.
  • If we act as individuals, it will be too little.
  • But if we act as communities, it may just be enough, just in time.
